  Arc of Descent News

NEWS

First and foremost, I would like to extend my apologies to a certain band and individual that I forgot to add on my last newsletter. Dan from Worst Case Scenario, I'm sorry. Dan is the man who set up our entire weekend mini-tour, and things were so hectic when we got back, wait, no, I'm just an ass...heh...anyway, sorry bout that Dan, really wasn't intentional. My bad. Thanks for everything, it was a killer trip.

BAD NEWS

Unfortunately, we have lost another player from AOD. J had decided that AOD is not what he wants anymore. As one of the founding members of AOD, this is a very sad time. If anyone knows a drummer that would be interested in trying out, please let us know...we just want to say good luck to Jason, he will be dearly missed in the band, but at least we still have him as a friend, which is all that matters.

PROTOTYPE SIGNS TO MASSACRE RECORDS GERMANY

PROTOTYPE SIGNS TO MASSACRE RECORDS GERMANY

It's been a wild ride these few past weeks...

First off, as you may or may not recall, we had relatively recently signed a contract to release "Trinity" in Europe via Insanity Records (Germany.) Well, a couple of weeks ago we got word from the label founder himself that he was no longer going to pursue the label due to financial constraints and was therefore releasing all of the bands from their contracts. This, as you may imagine, was a low blow to our (and Intromental Management's) efforts towards finally getting "Trinity" to Europe. As it turns out, some things are simply blessings in disguise :)

MASSACRE RECORDS has decided to pick up where Insanity left off and release "Trinity" in Jan/Feb 2004!!!!

Very special thanks go to Claus and Lars at Intromental for their persistence and hard work!

PROTOTYPE TRACK ADDED TO MAJOR XBOX/PLAYSTATION GAME

Prototype's unreleased song "Probe", in instrumental form, has been chosen to be featured in Activision's Spring 2004 release "MTX:Mototrax" game. The game will be available for Sony PlayStation 2, Microsoft Xbox and Nintendo GameCube. We've been wanting to include our music in games for some time now, and this is a great one to get started on. We expect to get more of our stuff on other games in the future.

Stay tuned for more news as it happens...

  Pigface/Invisible Records Update

Hey guys!!! Suzan here at Underground inc. taking a step back from things to see this increasingly monumental picture. As always, lots going on; people joining forces that are now stronger than ever., There’s people all over the US coordinating and collaborating, and simultaneously elaborating on the meaning of it all. It’s a beauty of a sight.

We are three weeks away from the tour hitting the road and one & half weeks away from beginning rehearsals. Soon members will slowly start to trickle in from all over the world. There are some of the usual F*ckheads, Martin Atkins (Killing Joke, PiL, Ministry, NiN etc), Charles Levi (of My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult), Curse Mackey (of Evil Mothers and Grim Faeries) and Jared Louche – front man of Chemlab. This time we have some newcomers: J.S. Clayden (front-man for Pitchshifter), who will be introducing his new band shortly & the STUNNING Fi from UK media-darlings DRAGSTER. And our most recent additions – Kami from Apocalypse Theatre, Michelle Walters from VooDou not to mention Seibold from Hate Dept. on guitar, and yours truly, Candyxxx from BoZo PoRno CiRcus. Martin has invited a personal special guest as well, En Esch, who was an important part of early Pigface, along with his Slick Idiot bandmate Guenter Schulz (ex-KMFDM) on guitar. Having mentioned the above, I should also say that there are going to be some some very – and I mean very – special guests on this on this one.

THEN! We’ve got the rest of the people involved…

Dope, Professional Murder Music, Rachel Stamp and Diablo Syndrome. Check out these websites, they’re really worth checking out:

www.dopearmy.com www.murdermusic.com www.rachelstamp.com

Keeping the tradition with the last tour, Underground inc. has also announced the opportunity to be eternally wed- Pigface style! The ceremony will be auctioned off on ebay… so make your proposals soon, boys, clocks-a-ticking!

So before you blink or think twice, or lose this fabulous and enlightening opportunity to be involved, sign up! There is still time…

Another edition of the Hump Day Report.

Twelve Heads . . . yes I'm back with yet another edition of the Hump Day Report. I hope this one finds you searching your mom's medical book to find out what those sores are on your cock. No shows this weekend my brutal friends - so you'll have to curl up with a copy of "Unfit For Human Occupancy" and stick your tongue in the one you love. Oh yeah!

Speaking of "Unfit" - why don't you buy a copy online right now? No - right fuckin' now! You can pick one up for only $9.99 or "Flesh of the Weak" for only $8.99. What about snagging either "Core Til Death" or "Core Til Death II" for only $6.66 each? What a deal! Go to the Heavycore Records online store and grab one now - or a custom Heavycore hoodie with your name on the front! Fuck yeah . . . www.lowtwelve.com/hcrecords.html

Did you see the Brutality Report this past week? Oh it was a good one - you have to check it out if you missed it. We shot the extra footage for the upcoming Heavycore DVD "Roasting Posers Volume I" and it was one hell of a time! Check it out at >www.lowtwelve.com/2003-233.html if you want to see two hot chicks dancing on a table with the "Heavycore" anthem cranked in the background. It's a beautiful site!

Speaking of "Roasting Posers Volume I" - you're going to just shit the bed when you check it out. Bands like Pro-Pain and Lividity are tearing it the fuck up live on this DVD and some incredible videos from regional maniacs like Slugtrail, Skeptik, Blessed with Pain, and Alchymist really blew my ass away. Of course our "Lines Drawn" video is on the release, and we even added the live "Heavycore" anthem from the recent Melissa benefit when brothers in Blessed with Pain, Alchymist, and The Breed of Sedition jumped up and joined in. There are tons of great bands from California, New Mexico, New York, Missouri, Maryland, and beyond. We have a few last minute bands coming in - but the total will be around 19 or 20. Be prepared for this one! Cover art from Jeff Gaither will be coming in very soon - I can't even wait to show you that.

Speaking of Heavycore - we are nearing 1,000 members if you can believe that. How insane is that shit? We started it in 1999 and in four short years we've gathered 1,000 brothers in metal. It's incredible and I can't say enough how much I appreciate all of your support for Low Twelve and the many great Heavycore bands out there. Thank you! Go check out the site if you haven't for a while - the message board is really active and we are getting about 30,000 hits a month on it easily. During Core Wars 2003, we were getting 50,000 hits a month on the Heavycore site and 30,000 on the Low Twelve site simultaneously! That's a alot of people checking out some brutality my comrades. Go visit www.heavycore.org before I bitch slap you now!

We are gearing up to record the music for "This Side Toward Enemy" as a meeting is being set up with the engineers who will be helping us track it. Craig Cole and Jim Bethel will be giving us a big hand and a friend of Wes' from Clinton will be doing all the drum stuff. It's going to be a collaboration of nastiness. We plan on mixing, producing, and mastering the cd ourselves from the sacred Low Twelve Command Center. Les, Wes, and I are totally pumped to lay this shit down - twelve songs with everything we've got poured into them. Fuckin' A.

I'm going to cut this short - as the World Series is getting ready to crank up. Gotta see Clemens pitch his last game.

Brutal Times Twelve,

Pete Altieri

  Meatjack Tour

This album is a bold offering, epic in sound, and one that will surely garner a huge amount of notice from the metal community. Meatjack have the mathy edge of Keelhaul, the in-you-face volume of Bongzilla, and the faintest strains of early Godflesh industrial noise. Dont read this comparison as a sleight against Meatjack at all, it is intended merely as a reference point, as the band as carved out a niche all their own. There is something exciting going on with this record, and it is a mandatory listen for any heavy music fan.

  Pantera to Damageplan

PANTERA's New Found Power Has A Name: DAMAGEPLAN - Oct. 16, 2003

PANTERA guitarist Dimebag Darrell and drummer Vinnie Paul have officially named their new band DAMAGEPLAN. The group, whose debut album is due January 27 through Elektra Records, also features singer Patrick Lachman, who used to play guitar in HALFORD and DIESEL MACHINE. Former JERRY CANTRELL back-up guitarist Shawn Matthews, who played bass in an early incarnation of DAMAGEPLAN (then called NEW FOUND POWER), is no longer involved with the project (a replacement bassist may be announced as early as this Friday, according to the group's management). The album, tentatively titled "New Found Power", was recorded at Darrell's home studio, Chasin Jason, and was produced by Darrell and Paul along with Sterling Winfield (PANTERA, MERCYFUL FATE). Guests include SLIPKNOT's Corey Taylor (lead vocals on second verse and bridge and half of last verse in "Fuck You") and OZZY OSBOURNE/BLACK LABEL SOCIETY guitarist Zakk Wylde (lead outro on "Reborn" and backing vocals on "Soulbleed").

The complete track listing for the CD is as follows:

01. Wake Up
02. NFP (New Found Power)
03. Pride
04. Blunt Force Trauma
05. Save Me
06. Explode

- SOME GIRLS "All My Friends Are Going Death" CD coming this November

SOME GIRLS "All My Friends Are Going Death" CD will be released on
Deathwish November 4th.

SOME GIRLS "All My Friends Are Going Death" is comprised of "The Rains" 7"EP (Deathwish 2002) , "The Blues" 7"EP (Deathwish 2003), as well as their Demo sessions (2001), and brand new material.

All of the material has been remixed and remastered by Paul Miner (Death By Stereo). 15 songs in all, "All My Friends Are Going Death", gives the subtle hints of genius in SOME GIRLS previous work a cohesive new home.

Pre-Ordering for "All My Friends Are Going Death" CD will be available soon.

SOME GIRLS have managed to turn the hardcore/punk world on its head with the release of two 7"EPs and a few live performances. This may have something to do with SOME GIRLS being comprised of a cast of members that includes Wes Eisold (Give Up The Ghost/AN), Rob Moran (Unbroken, Over
My Dead Body), and Justin Pearson (The Locust, Swing Kids) among their collective line-up. Each member brings their own approach and past musical history to the table, creating the SOME GIRLS unique personality and genuine character.

- MOST PRECIOUS BLOOD "Our Lady Of Annihilation" 12"LP coming this November

In partnership with Trustkill, Deathwish will be releasing Most
Precious Blood's most controversial effort to date, "Our Lady Of
Annihilation", on limited 12" vinyl on November 4th.

From their lyrics and music straight down to their stark black and
white aesthetics, you know where Most Precious Blood is from and where they stand. Their take-no-shit work ethic has become notorious and remains unparalleled. They are frighteningly focused and their touring schedule would even make Black Flag shudder.

Most Precious Blood began in Brooklyn, New York during the summer of 2000 as a continuation of recently imploded Indecision; the former band of founding members Justin Brannan and Rachel Rosen. But as years went by, Most Precious Blood became its own animal with a new vision. MPB have created a unique style, which joins the intensity and rage of their NYHC mentors (Sick Of It All, Agnostic Front and the Cro-Mags) along with the dark and depressing aesthetics of bands like Sisters of Mercy and
The Cure. Haunting melodies and heavier-than-gravity riffs have become Most Precious Blood's modus operandi.

Most Precious Blood pride themselves on being musicians, which to them means being a fan of all styles of music. "As a musician I can find something to appreciate in just about any style you can throw at me". MPB have always worn their influences on their sleeves and have always preached the importance of knowing and embracing your "roots". "Our Lady Of Annihilation" gives musical nods to everyone from Sick Of It All to Bauhaus, so listen close.

The band is now better than ever with Rob Fusco (ex- One King Down) on vocals. Rob joined the band in early 2003. Rob's unbridled energy and passion is a perfect fit for this band that was already boiling over with intensity.

- 2004 Preview: THE BLINDING LIGHT, 100 DEMONS, HOLYGHOST, BREATHER
RESIST, and more

We have a number of releases planned for early 2004. Below is a rundown
of the quality releases that are heading your way.

HORROR SHOW "Vacation" 7"EP
The highly anticipated sophmore 7"EP from HORROR SHOW. These songs were
recorded just prior to Nicky Money being imprisoned. This material
showcases the heart and strife that makes this great band so truly
unforgettable.

THE BLINDING LIGHT "The Ascension Attempt" CD
This is the brutal new album from South Dakota's metal monsters. This
dynamic, poetic, textural, and intense full length album is sure to
floor listeners worldwide with its aural power. You've been warned.

100 DEMONS Full Length CD/LP
Connecticut has always been a breeding ground for heavy and menacing
music. And after five years of progression, 100 DEMONS have risen to the
forefront of the influential Connecticut hardcore community.
Encapsulating a pure viciousness and ravenous intensity that few ever could
achieve. The 100 DEMONS approach is utterly monstrous, equal parts hardcore
intensity and gut wrenching metallic precision. Sicker, meaner, and
outright harder than any of their contemporaries. Early 2004 will see this
demon once again take flight. This November, 100 DEMONS will be
entering Planet Z Studios with producer Zeuss (Hatebreed, Shadows Fall) to
record their new album to be released by Deathwish in February 2004.

HOLYGHOST Debut CDEP
RINGWORM's legendary front man, Human Furnace, is reborn. This time,
even more evil and depraved in the form of HOLYGHOST. Calling this
material heavy would be an understatement. Everything you'd expect from HF,
with a twist of cain for good measure.

HORROR SHOW "Vacation" 7"EP
The highly anticipated sophmore 7"EP from HORROR SHOW. These songs were
recorded just prior to Nicky Money being imprisoned. This material
showcases the heart and strife that makes this great band so truly
unforgettable.

BREATHER RESIST Full Length CD
BREATHER RESIST have been busier than ever. After finishing up some
solo east coast dates in support of their "Only In The Morning" MCD/10"LP,
they recently went out on a whirlwind 10 day tour with Converge and A
Life Once Lost. Flooring audiences and winning supporters throughout the
country. The band is now hard at work on the material which will become
their new album. If their growth within the past year is any
indication, their upcoming full length is sure to raise the bar for creativity
throughout the entire independent music community.

We have many other projects, including the launch of "Icarus" our
sister label, coming in early 2004. Be sure to check out
www.deathwishinc.com for the latest updates on these, as well as other quality projects we
are working on.

3 . Band News

ARCH ENEMY
The Swedish quintet just wrapped up a European tour alongside labelmates Nevermore and immediately headed over to the U.S. to take part in the Jagermeister tour. The trek, featuring the almighty Slayer and Hatebreed, kicked off this past week and will run through November 29th. Ranking in at #6 on Billboard's New Artist Chart, #15 on Billboard's Top Independent Chart and #26 on Billboard's Heatseekers Chart, ARCH ENEMY's newest offering, Anthems Of Rebellion, has been taking the metal underground by storm and is easily their most dynamic, aggressive and cohesive effort to date. Their new video for We Will Rise is currently in heavy rotation on Fuses Uranium and MTV2s Headbangers Ball and is a featured download on MTVs website. The track also appears on the Headbangers Ball double disc CD set comprised of 40 tracks of other groundbreaking artists.

Following the Jagermeister tour the group will head back to the U.K. for a string of headlining dates leading to the end of the year. ARCH ENEMY plan to head back to the U.S. in mid-2004 to continue their onslaught.

ARCH ENEMY - "We Will Rise"

The best melodic death metal album of the year.
--Alternative Press, September 2003

CARNAL FORGE
After delivering one of their most relentless and savage offerings to date, the mighty Swedish thrash quintet have already commenced the songwriting process for their fifth full-length release. Jari Kuusisto (guitars) checks in with the following update, We will once again hit Studio Underground for the recording of our fifth album (no title yet). The recording will start February 3rd and we will record about 12-13 songs. To give everyone a small hint of what to expect I can say that we picked up from where the last album, The More You Suffer, stopped. The new songs are a little bit more aggressive, but all of you that liked our previous albums wont get disappointed. We have also had some problems with our website, but that will soon be fixed. A studio diary will be posted as soon we hit the studio again. So we hope t o see you all in near future and dont forget to bang your heads.

CHILDREN OF BODOM
The Finnish melodic thrash masters have returned with their most blistering offering yet. Their fourth full-length album, Hate Crew Deathroll, features nine tracks of lethal, overwhelming dual guitar insanity and melody. The media cant stop praising their new effort and the group will embark on their first U.S. tour alongside Dimmu Borgir, Nevermore and Hypocrisy this November. They are also shooting a video for the track Sixpounder this month and look for it to make its Fuse and MTV2 debut later this year.

Hate Crew Deathroll is relentless in its delivery staying true to its dramatic melody, clean production and intricate song structures.

DIMENSION ZERO
The death/thrash metal evolution has arrived and expect the unexpected. This assault comes to you in the form of the vicious Swedish quintet known as DIMENSION ZERO and their latest effort, This Is Hell, finds the group embracing a more direct approach to their songwriting. The 10-track offering features the talents of Jesper Strvmblad (In Flames) on bass and Jocke Gvthberg (ex-Marduk) on vocals. This is the duos third album and it is easily their most sinister. The bands sound could be compared to a mixture of At The Gates, Dissection and Mayhem, as they lean away from melody and put more emphasis on speed and savage aggression.

The group did not set out to reinvent the wheel, but they have set their sights on creating the most destructive thrash metal record to date. There are very few albums these days that command your full attention, but this one will immediately grab you by the jugular and refuse to let go. From here, it looks like hell aint such a bad place to be.

The group just shot a new video for the track Immaculate with acclaimed director Roger Johansson (In Flames, Arch Enemy) that should be completed by the end of the month. The groups scorching new album is set for a November 4th release.

EYES OF FIRE
The versatile Orange County quintet have created a strong local following with the release of their new EP, Disintegrate, and their numerous live performance. Their debut album, Ashes To Embers, is set for an early 2004 release.

Recently Dan Kaufman (guitars, vocals) checked in to let us know how things have been going and they are more than ready to get on the road. Hey there, Dan from EYES OF FIRE here. Shit is going off the hook for us. The EP has been getting incredible response from the press and the fans out there. Be on the lookout for features in a lot of your favorite music mags. If you havent had the chance to pick it up you are wasting time and missing out on some kick ass tunes. The shows in California with WATCH THEM DIE and LACUNA COIL were out of control. There are plans to destroy the rest of the U.S. this coming winter. So keep checking up on the site (www.eyesoffire.us) for all the latest and greatest EYES OF FIRE news and random thoughts.

GOD FORBID
New Jersey thrash quintet GOD FORBID recently joined fellow hometown heroes E-Town Concrete for a three-week East Coast tour this month. This will mark the first time that both famed Jersey acts have united for any shows outside of their immediate area. The group are currently wrapped up the highly successful Bitter, Broken, Bound and Gagged tour with Atreyu and Darkest Hour and will cap off their highly productive year with participation on the Headbangers Ball tour featuring SHADOWS FALL, Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage and Unearth.

The bands new full-length album, Gone Forever, was recorded at Trax East Studios by Eric Rachel (Atreyu, E-Town, Every Time I Die) and mixed by the acclaimed Colin Richardson (Chimaira, Fear Factory). The 11-track assault promises to be GOD FORBIDs most dynamic offering to date. Look for an EP titled Better Days - containing a new track from their upcoming album, alongside other previously unreleased studio material to surface in late fall.

HASTE
The poignant, melodic, high-energy sextet HASTE are preparing for a busy fall touring schedule alongside the likes of Hey Mercedes (Vagrant Records), Hopesfall (Trustkill) and Stretch Armstrong (Solidstate), among others. The first trek - with Stretch Armstrong and With Honor (Stillborn) - is set to run from November 11 th to November 23rd along the east coast. This will lead into a three-week stint with Hey Mercedes, Hopesfall and Zao, thereby capping off an already stellar year. HASTE are currently in the midst of a national six-week tour with As I Lay Dying that included shows with Bleeding Through on the west coast. A new video for the track Stutter was recently shot in Los Angeles with acclaimed director Zach Merck (Blindside, Norma Jean, Shadows Fall), and look for it to make its Fuse and MTV2 debut later this year.

Kelly Reaves (vocals) further describes the bands extensive touring schedule, The As I Lay Dying tour has been going great, except for our van breaking down every couple of weeks. Thanks to everyone for coming out to the shows. After this tour we are going to work on our transportation problem and then we head right back out. We will be doing a Northeast/Eastern Canada run with Stretch Armstrong and With Honor in November. We've always wanted to do some dates with Stretch, so we are pretty stoked about the tour. As soon as we get home from that, we head out for the Hopesfall, Hey Mercedes, Zao tour in December. That will keep us busy until the end of the year, but we are just getting started so watch for a whole lot of news about our plans for 2004.

A work of steroid-strong songwriting, razor sharp hooks and an emotional post-metalcore melodic hardcore throttle, all congealed within a Quicksand/Poison The Well/Glassjaw style.
--Metal Maniacs, August 2003

Few in todays metal scene are as dynamic and captivating as Birmingham, Alabamas very own HASTE, a band that have intuitively eluded direct classification with their never-ending musical evolution.
--The PRP, August 2003

KRISIUN
The Brazilian extreme metal titans have retuned with a vengeance and created what might be the most savage album to come along this year. Over the past decade the group have perfected their dynamic, unrelenting assault and this experience has certainly transcended into the songwriting process for their latest effort. Their fifth full-length release, Works of Carnage, delivers 12 tracks of devastating blast beats matched with a barrage of shredding guitar technicality. The group will make their triumphant return to the U.S. alongside Deicide and Hate Eternal next month. This album will proceed to pummel any listener into the ground with its devastating aggression and you will be lucky to make it through one listen unharmed.

Video:
KRISIUN - "Murderer"

Essentially their most ferocious release since Conquerors Of Armageddon, these Brazilians continue to slash and dash their way through death metal's elite. And what's even more impressive is that the danger doesn't quit, the band pummeling and rolling over anything in its path for an entire album proper.
--Digitalmetal, September 2003

Works of Carnage is KRISIUN at their best.
--Infernal Combustion, September 2003

MOONSPELL
The Portuguese-based gothic/metal pioneers MOONSPELL will embark on a national U.S. tour alongside fellow genre leaders Cradle of Filth and Type O Negative this fall. The trek, set to begin on November 13th and run through the end of December, will also include a stop at the New Jersey Metal and Hardcore Festival. This tour announcement comes on the eve of the groups seventh album, The Antidote, set for an October 21st release. After enlisting the talents of Waldemar Sorychta (Lacuna Coil, Sentenced), who worked with the band on their acclaimed releases Wolfheart, Irreligious and Sin/Pecado, to handle the albums pre-production, the band emerged with 10 epic tracks that encompass many aspects of horror, melody and heaviness. The addition of Niclas Eteldvuori (Amorphis) on bass further allowed them to conquer new ground, while retaining the sound they developed almost a decade ago.

Fernando Ribeiro (vocals) further describes the bands excitement over their much-anticipated return to the U.S. after a two-year absence: If someone told the pessimist in me that we would go on this wonderful tour together with Cradle of Filth and Type O Negative, I would laugh sardonically at him and especially at myself. But now that everything is being put together, I just feel like tapping that lost energy into impressing every single one for what we are, which is what is contained in our music, purely and solely. The first sold-out show we ever played in our lives was supporting COF in a distant 1994 here in Lisbon, and we all agree that the best and most successful tour we ever had was supporting Type O around Europe, back in 1996, the year of all radiances for us. So nothing can fail, and we are working hard to come back in style, with our new album and our old classics, to underline a spark we like to think we left in our dear U.S. audience, which is like we are now: small but powerful. So we would love to meet you all, to have you tasting the antidote and to have you all basking at the moonlight, this agitated moonlight, whose spirits we want to cast upon you, by our words, by our sounds and by our furious love for communicating our (he)Art unto those who can better understand it: you. We do hope to see you all there.

NEVERMORE
The Seattle-based quartet have returned with their fifth and most overwhelming release that is sure to leave any metal fan in awe. Their new opus, Enemies of Reality, features nine tracks of blistering guitars solos and double bass insanity all matched with a powerful vocal delivery that will bring the largest of men to their knees. The unique sound this band have created effortlessly fuses the classic 80s thrash sound with a modern songwriting approach. This group uses their experience focusing on creating songs that are thought-provoking and overall brutally heavy. They will embark on their first U.S. tour in over two years alongside Children of Bodom, Dimmu Borgir and Hypocrisy this November. Their new video for the albums title track was shot by acclaimed director Zach Merch (Blindside, Shadows Fall) and is currently in he avy rotation on Headbangers Ball. This is true metal in its purest form.

NEVERMOREs fifth effort is remarkably intense and is the sound of an angry, heavy and uncompromising band.
--Blistering.com, July 2003

SCAR CULTURE
After a long and grueling search, the Brooklyn-based quartet SCAR CULTURE have solidified a new vocalist. Their new frontman, Roman Garbacik, has the vocal range, intensity and commanding presence that the band have been so actively searching for over the past year. The group have already commenced the songwriting process for their sophomore album, with plans to have it ready for a summer 2004 release. After touring extensively for their debut album, Inscribe, they are eagerly anticipating getting back out on the road to annihilate audiences with their revamped lineup.

John Conley (guitars) further describes his excitement over their newest member: After many, many months of auditions, we have found the person we feel can properly handle the older material and offer a lot more to the new stuff. His name is Roman Garbacik. He hails from Connecticut and formerly tore up most of New England with 8 Trak Mind and Mourn Makes Movement. With him on board the writing for the next CD is in full swing. We're looking to do some shows in the north east to strengthen the lineup even more and start breaking in new tunes. Be sure to check the tour section of our website for updates. Again, thank you all for your patience throughout most of 2003.Things are only getting started.

SHADOWS FALL
The group are just about to wrap up a successful run on the Take Action tour alongside acclaimed acts as Posion The Well and Avenged Sevenfold, among others. From here the group will prepare for a lengthy headlining stint on the massive Headbangers Ball package tour with Killswitch Engage and Lamb of God until the end of the year. Their new video for The Idiot Box is set to make its MTV2 debut on Headbangers Ball October 18th, where the band will also be special guests.

WATCH THEM DIE
The savage Oakland-based quintet WATCH THEM DIE are set to embark on a national U.S. this November in support of their debut self-titled album. The month-long trek will also include a stop at this years New Jersey Metalfest on November 15th, marking the bands first U.S. festival appearance. Their new self-titled offering was released on October 7th to a slew of rave reviews from mainstream and underground publications alike. These purveyors of the extreme rose from the ashes of several highly influential underground bands - Grimple, Schlong, ELDOPA (aka: 1332), Word Salad, Buzzov-en and OjoRojo - but they refuse to rest solely on their past accomplishments. After developing a rabid underground west coast following, the group are ready to spread their wrath throughout the world and are quickly going to capture peoples atte ntion with their overwhelming intensity and unconventionality.

Pat Vigil (vocals) further describes the groups excitement over their first national U.S. tour: Hey this is VIGIL from WATCH THEM DIE and I just wanted to let metalheads and thrashers around the country know that we will be touring the U.S. starting early November, in support of our new CD. We are doing 38 shows in 36 days .We hope to see people everywhere come out of their domains and help us take it back to the time when music was intense and scared the hell out of people. We truly hope to see all of you on the road. We thank all that have supported us and strive for the punishment of false metal. Respect and Violence.

Be prepared for war is about to be unleashed.

check out the latest issue of SJM

Don't forget to check out the latest issue of SJM while you still
can! http://www.spacejunkies.net

Now on for some goodies!

The NEXT issue of SJM due out the last week of October has some very
special goodies for you SJM readers to dig into.

First up: We have a new column writer on board! And you can expect to
see RIX667's first article in the next issue. I just read it last
night and it's sure to inform a lot of music listeners as well as
independent musicians about some "levies" that effect CD-R users.

Secondly: We have (and one of my personal favorites) an old time
friend and former staff member of SJM contributing a LARGE amount of
reviews. Of course he sent in so many that I'll have to spread them
over a few issues of SJM! If you haven't guessed yet, it's Andrew
Parrish (you can also read an interview I did with him, in the
upcoming SJM print zine!!)

Lastly: The broken down details so far:
Spotlights: Scott Landers, Kim Germaine, Weszt, Fustercluck, and
Morgueazm
Columns by: Bobby Borg, John Foxworthy (another great read!),
Wednesday Elektra, and RIX667 (I believe 2 more writers are
submitting materials to this issue as well)
Reviews: Cage, Jack Wright & Bob Marsh, Jad Fair & Jason Willett,
Norther Liberties, Hellblock 6, Worldeater Records Sampler, 60
Minutes of Laughter Comp., Goff, Dog As Master, Ashland, Blue Dogs,
Facing East, Backhoe Butchery, Eternal Ruin, Collider,
Milkbagbrother, and a ton more.
Interviews with: Eternal Ruin, Don Slepian, Pete Miser and Weszt
Plus lots of other goodies ;)

So, go check out the latest issue: http://www.spacejunkies.net and
stay tuned for the next issue!

xox
Wednesday
PS I'm still looking for people, labels, artists, companies, etc. to
spotlight in upcoming issues. If you're interested, email me at

  CMT Productions

Dear Artist,

After completing a recent poll of our clients, we have found that more often than not, bands and independent artists are in need of funding for their project.

With that in mind, CMT Productions has created a program for artists that enables them to secure possible funding for their projects.* Our office has a strong staff that includes Certified Public Accountants. This financial staff is able to create plans for individual bands and artists so they are able to approach prospective investors for projects.

If you feel that your project could benefit from additional funding please contact our office directly. Email info@cmtproductions.com or call (410) 482-9602.

============== METAL NEWS ================

BlackMetal.com Mailorder update:
While there are quite a few "NEW ARRIVALS" to the website (such as the much-anticipated FORGOTTEN TOMB CD from Adipocere Records, with more on the way from both Adipocere and Oaken Shield in France!), this is a red-letter week heavy on the "RESTOCKS". For example, we've resorted to having to import much of the Hammerheart back-catalogue since the decline of the domestic versions from Hammerheart USA. Essential titles which have been listed as "temporarily not available" for the past months (such as MITHOTYN, THYRFING, HAGALAZ RUNEDANCE, CRUACHAN, the DIMMU BORGIR/OLD MANS CHILD split, AURA NOIR, AETERNUS, ALAS, CORONA BOREALIS, PRIMORDIAL, RAVENOUS, etc.) are now available again, albeit in limited quantities (until we can get more, of course)... When browsing our website, PLEASE remember that hundreds, literally thousands, of titles are currently available for ordering, and that the seeming proliferation of "not available" listings encountered are maintained strictly for "ARCHIVAL" purposes (think of this site as a vast archive of Extreme Black Metal reference, as many do!), plus we're always hoping and intending to re-stock those missing items! For us, the rich history of Metal and the vast scope of past releases is as much of a concern to us (as "true" die-hards), as it is for "trendies" who care only for the latest fashion, those late 'train-jumpers' unconcerned with the substance of original classics and pioneers before! Often-times complaints about seeing too many "temp n/a" listings are a sure sign of a "newbie" who has no idea about how we maintain our site. Our customers and friends, regular visitors to our site (often called "frontrunners" because they're quickest on the draw in terms of ordering as the early bird getting the worm) know to be patient, concentrating on what is actually available with confidence that impending "RESTOCK" listings are forthcoming. Re-stocks make past complaints of this nature moot and ultimately pointless; this is a fast-paced and dynamic environment, and we don't worry about transient and momentary concerns of this nature. We're always confident of our methods to satisfy our supporters. We cater to what can be considered an "elite" crowd-- for those of you in this alliance, our site is easy to navigate, problems finalizing your orders are minimal, payment methods are abundant, secure, and stress-free, all the nerve-wracking "retail-experience" heartbreak of acquiring that all-important slab of Extreme Blackened noise to enhance your life is avoided with a few easy clicks of a mouse or keyboard!

Not only do we endeavor to bring in the latest in-demand releases ("NEW ARRIVALS" such as those by FUNERAL MIST, ONDSKAPT, DIMMU BORGIR, DEMONCY, MOONTOWER, SATANIC WARMASTER, IRON MAIDEN, etc.; and "RESTOCKS" such as the LORDS OF CHAOS Book by Blood Axis' Michael Moynihan, numerous titles on Red Stream, Osmose, No Colours, Head Not Found, the aforementioned Hammerheart, KRISTALLNACHT, DESTRUCTION, SODOM, MARDUK, etc., plus a forthcoming Century Media shipment early next week!), we're also working to constantly expand the available offerings of "VINTAGE" titles, BOOKS, SHIRTS, and other merchandise of interest-- all in an effort to make available to you, as easily as possible, those thing which enhance your Extreme Black Metal lifestyle! If you were to walk into a "new age" or metaphysical store (which are usually oriented towards wicca or "white" magic), you won't find Satanic Baphomets with inverted pentagrams or goats! For those of you who wish to display the trappings of Black Metal imagery in your personal domain, we understand that most mainstream retail avenues fail your requirements!

We do not bow or capitulate to the ignorant dictates of self-proclaimed "taste-makers" (just another word for "trendy" in disguise!) who attempt to criticize our tried-and-true methods! We have existed successfully for long enough to know that the vexations of immature, new to the scene "gurus" are but temporary annoyances. As the independent nihilistic gun-enthusiast libertines that we are, we proudly exist and operate on our Satanic terms, and if these irritants (so-called "guardians of the Scene") do not understand this, then they have no business being in the Black Metal Scene! These "guardians of the Scene" actually hurt, not help, the Scene-- they contribute nothing to the success of the precious bands they seek to "protect"; they would rather see Underground bands wallow and flounder away in obscurity and premature aging or demise! The bands exist independently of us, but it is WE who are most productive in HELPING the audience to find the bands. Our mortal enemies, the worthless couch potatoes who are most vocal about the "purity" of the Scene are the most unproductive lot, their ignorant negativity seeking to bring everyone else down to their pathetic level-- they contribute nothing to the richness and dynamic of the art and lifestyle; for them, a receptive audience of equally ignorant "followers" (or "meat-heads") is their fantasy. They invent imagined "crusades" to give their dead-end lives meaning. They want to make Black Metal a fraternity (while under the guise of being a "rebel") like rap or hip-hop, when we value multi-dimensional individuality and transformed self-autonomy. We don't need any more messiahs-- that's for christians and other spiritually enlsaved. When being forced or subjected to the tiresome whining and moaning tirades of these "taste-makers", "guardians of the Scene", self-proclaimed gurus (in actuality closeted frat-boy, pimp-wannabee's), you have only to consider their past contributions (positive or negative?), and consider the source (too), to be able to make up your own mind. The Scene is full of con-artists; beware of SHEEP in wolves clothing! --Elden M. *(with Hails to LUCIFUGUM!)

AGE OF SILENCE - The End is proud to announce signing AGE OF SILENCE; a venture involving renowned members of the Norwegian metal scene. Once again, a constellation of multi-talents have joined forces to create an unstoppable juggernaut that will surely leave its mark on the music world as something new, original and unique. Featured in this project will be Lazare (Solefald, Borknagar), Eikind (Khold, Tulus), Hellhammer (Arcturus, Winds, Mayhem), and two other newcomers to the scene who go under the names Extant and Kobbergaard. Andy Winter, the mastermind behind Winds, is also be involved in the project. Many things can be said about the quite original concept, featuring music with hard-hitting guitars, blasting drums and expressionistic vocals, yet with the calm and soothing feel of atmospheric keyboards. This is a truly different musical experience, thrilling and intense yet meditative and deep. In other words another exciting addition to our unique and artistic roster. The band is entering the studio today to begin recordings on the debut album.

OMEN SINGER PASSES ON -- J.D. Kimball, the former lead singer of Omen, passed away on October 3rd, 2003 after a 3-year battle with cancer. Omen guitarist, Kenny Powell, would like to share these words about his former bandmate: "He was a great writer, one of the true innovators in the early years of power metal. I am extremely proud of the records that we did together, "Battle Cry", "Warning of Danger", "Nightmares" and "The Curse". I hope everyone will remember J.D. for all of his truly great contributions to the world of Heavy Metal. My condolences go out to his family and friends. Sincerely, Kenny Powell".

SERUM Newsletter 10/2003 -- "Sad but true: After 7 years, the band SERUM will no longer exist in this line-up. The main reason for this breakup is the fact that the musical tastes and interests of the individual band members had become more and more diverse. So it got increasingly difficult to write songs that were 'compatible' with everybody's perception of music. But all of us will continue and appear in other bands, so please check our website for news once in a while! Finally, a big THANKS to our fans for your support during all this time!" -- SERUM (Wolfgang, Strecki, Markus, Klaus & Alex)

SLAYER FOUR-DISC BOX SET SOUNDTRACK TO THE APOCALYPSE FEATURES ALBUM TRACKS, RARITIES AND DVD OF LIVE PERFORMANCES; FIVE-DISC DELUXE EDITION ADDS CONCERT CD...

Slayer, the fastest, heaviest and darkest band on the planet, goes to extremes for its first retrospective. A three-CD/one-DVD box set regular edition and four-CD/one-DVD specially packaged "ammo box" for the deluxe version, Soundtrack To The Apocalypse (American Recordings/UMe), released November 25, 2003, celebrates the visceral assault that is Slayer.

A Slayer fan's ultimate experience, Soundtrack To The Apocalypse includes tracks spanning every Slayer album since 1986, soundtrack cuts, Japan-only tracks, more than a dozen rarities, and a DVD of live performances spanning 20 years, all digitally remastered. The deluxe edition adds a full-length concert CD from Slayer's 2002 God Hates Us All tour stop in Anaheim, CA, presented in a "blood pack" sleeve (with faux blood and floating skulls). The tour was the band's first with original drummer Dave Lombardo since 1992. The deluxe edition also includes a wall banner and replica backstage laminate. Both editions have an extensive booklet spotlighting a history based on interviews with each member and long-time producer Rick Rubin.

Disc 1 opens with five tracks from Slayer's 1986 major label debut, Reign In Blood, considered the most brutal thrash metal album of all time. Among the fan favorites are "Postmortem" and "Raining Blood." The album was the first of four consecutive gold studio albums, an impressive feat for a band that receives little radio or MTV exposure. From 1988's South Of Heaven are five tracks, including the title track. Culled from 1990's Seasons In The Abyss are another quintet, including "Dead Skin Mask." 1991's live Decade Of Aggression contributes three--"Chemical Warfare" and "Hell Awaits" among them.

Disc 2 continues the chronology with five recordings from 1994's Divine Intervention, three from 1996's Undisputed Attitude, a trio from 1998's Diabolus In Musica and another three from 2001's God Hates Us All. Songs heard on various soundtracks are joined by two cuts previously unreleased in the U.S. from the Japanese Diabolus In Musica, two more from the import God Hates Us All and a bonus cover of the Suicidal Tendencies' "Memories Of Tomorrow" from the Japan-only Undisputed Attitude.

Disc 3 focuses on rarities, from the earliest known Slayer recordings (previously unreleased 1983 live tracks) to seminal tracks taken from the band's garage rehearsals and even home demo recordings. The Disc 4 DVD showcases performances throughout the band's career and throughout the world as well as various TV appearances from singer-bassist Tom Araya, guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, and Lombardo.

Slayer is the band all other such heavy bands are measured against, defining not only a genre but an attitude. As Marc Paschke writes in the liner notes: "It's about restrained aggression and impending danger. It's about the dark cloud that fills the room, energized by the anger and hate and hostility of the audience…Most of all, it's about feeling good."

Soundtrack To The Apocalypse--it's the feel-good box set for the end of the world.

New Press Forums are posted at the Southern Lord website. As of now there are online photos, bios, and artwork posted for Khanate, Attila Csihar, and Place Of Skulls, with more to follow shortly. Check it out: www.southernlord.com/press

ATTILA CSIHAR
Undeniably one of black metal's heros, Attila has left his burning mark as one of the pioneers of the modern BM scene and shows no interest in stopping now. As a contributor to some of the most detrimental bands of the genre (Mayhem, Emperor, Tormentor) and making appearances on recordings with Limbonic Art, Sunn 0))), Anaal Nathrakh, the steady frontman for Aborym, and many more projects, ...The Beast Of.... collection shows Attila's wide range of vocal monstrosity with selections of all the bands here along with his more experimental projects (Professor Fate, Korog, Plasma Pool) over the past 15 years! Don't miss a chance to get inside the mind of one of the scene's masterminds of pure evil. Interviews are being set up now....

EARTHBOUND SMOKEGHOST
Earthbound Smoke Ghost ends, Namanista begins

"These past few years have been a period of huge growth for us
individually and as a group. Those of you who have followed us
throughout our journey may have noticed a dramatic evolution in our
sound, which we feel has developed into a style and presence unto its
own. Huddled in a corner table of the Flying Burrito we met to discuss
what direction we wished to take our energies in; what the hell do we
do from here?
Among that discussed amidst the consumption of chitpotle chicken and
birthed from the desire to propel ourselves forward we unveil our new
band name: Namanista.
Why? Because were moving forward. When? Right now. How? This was the
most hassle-free band naming session any of us have ever gone through.
Why again? Because its simply time. Did you enjoy your burrito? Yes,
thank you, although Millhouse kept asking if he could smell it.
We will have a new and much improved website up and running very soon
with the URL www.namanista.com.
Our live show is getting more and more polished, as those who were at
CBGB's gallery a bit ago witnessed first-hand. Thank you for coming to
that, we promise more and better as we go on. We have 3-song demo's
available for you if you run into us, or come down to a show. They're
more than worth the time, trust me. Stay tuned for more. We're ready."
~ On behalf of Namanista, Pheroze
[ www.namanista.com coming soon - www.earthboundsmokeghost.com still up now.....]

FU MANCHU
"Some raw, live Fu. Served up best with lots of volume. As does all good rock and roll. And this people, is some good rock n' roll. Guitars rip. Bass rumbles. Drums boom. All while images of the SoCal 70's lifestyle are painted in drawled rocking prose. It's hotrods and skateboards. It's open stretches of highway at 120 mph. If you like your rock pure, consider this the guy who has connections at the border... Think big ol' Ted Nugent 70's guitar rock, flexing on the guitar solos for sure, but streamlined into a faster tempo Black Sabbathy rock structure. As for this particular package of Fu, you trade a little studio clarity for some live energy. It's two CD's deep boasting 22 tracks of this riff driven rock and roll." Bushman | Modern Fix

What more needs said? Of the most perfect of live records from a literal FORCE that started all this 'stoner rock' shit, Fu Manchu show their pride and perfection in the rock they roll with, and play all the songs you want to hear along with a whole gang of Fu-ers chanting and rippin' it up in the background. Get up with us to get in line for interviews..... please?

HELVIS
Helvis features members of Iron Monkey, Pitchshifter, Cerebral Fix and The Varukers and sound exactly like a band that features members of Iron Monkey, Pitchshifter, Cerebral Fix and The Varukers...Unshaved, unshowered, knuckle-dragging monolithic riffs reminiscent of Hellhammer played at punk rock speeds revisiting Iron Monkey-like crawls from time to time..Helvis makes me fantasize about bouncing a 45lb plate off the head of the guy talking WAY TOO loudly on the treadmill across from the squat rack. It's that kinda vibe... angry, raw, no bullshit metal for the misanthropic. Over the meth metal chug of Steve Watson and Chris Marygold, vocalist Bloody Kev takes on the death metal/punk rock voice and alternately channels the vocals of a drunken Mongoloid nearly every song... Chris Barnes | Hellridemusic.com

Yeah, an explosive knock to the f'n skull of purely punk / early grindcore influence pushed with the depth and balls of doom on meth, Helvis put the bands they come from and smash them into one hell of a bloody lip waiting to happen. The band is now available for interviews, so get on the wagon and send us some questions. It's the cool thing to do....

KHANATE
Not the actual soundtrack for Armageddon, while everything is aflame and crumbling... this is the soundtrack to the aftermath. Nothing short of purely engulfing trance tones and sounds more destructive and crushing played at high volume than any death metal or stoner rock can top, Things Viral will make your ears bleed and force visions of nothing but ruins into your conscious and subconscious mind. Born of doom and experimental masterminds Stephen O'Malley (Sunn 0)), Burning Witch, Lotus Eaters, Thorr's Hammer), James Plotkin (Old, Scorn, Atomsmasher), Alan Dubin (Old) and Tim Wyskida (Blind Idiot God) you can find nothing more suppressing and cold than the sounds unleashed on the new album Things Viral. Interviews are available upon request... so request.....

LIFE OF AGONY
LIFE OF AGONY will be appearing Wed. December 10th & Thurs. December 11th at Downtown in Long Island, New York. Direct support for the 2 shows will be Blood Simple (featuring members of Vision of Disorder). Downtown is located at 190 Main Street in Farmingdale NY. These will be the first shows in the US following their extensive European tour starting October 18th which will take them through Belgium, Austria, France, Germany, Scotland, the Netherlands, and more (see full list of dates below). The band is available for interviews before the trip and even during for the most part, so get in touch with us for any press requests.

MEATJACK
"...Days of Fire is the newest Meatjack album and my ears have finally been beaten and bruised by some of the most well written and original heavy music I have heard in quite sometime. They aren't without comparison, they are similar to Neurosis, and hell I even hear some Slayer in a riff or two. Why is it original though? It has "moments" that sound like other bands, but for the most part it's totally new and exciting...If you like subwoofer rumbling bass, mid tempo guitar bashing and lots of discordance, Meatjack is your solution to all of your addictions. This is one hell of an album that needs to be heard!" Mike | Unboundzine.com

WIth some long overdue exposure bringing Meatjack to the masses, Days of Fire is a force to be reackoned with; we have about a million reviews to back it up, nearly every one of them a testament to the sheer force this band is capable of emitting. They're in the swing of their fall tour now and more than likely they'll be hitting a town near you. We have limited guest lists at each show, so if you want to interview the band or give 'em a live review, get in touch with the Earsplit Posse o' 2, and we'll put it together like Legos.

PLACE OF SKULLS
Well holy-fuckin-supergroup Batman! As if POS didn't rattle enough chains and turn enough heads with their debut record Nailed, Victor Griffin (Pentagram, Death Row) is now neck and neck with none other than Wino (Spirit Caravan, the Obsessed, Hidden Hand) on guitar/vocal duties!!! As on all previous POS recordings drummerTim Tomaselli is bashin' skins, and newfound Dennis Cornelius (Revelation, Oversoul, Doomstone) rounds out the low-end perfectly, making With Vision an instant classic to fans of the original stoner rock sound. No wanky guitar crap, no overproduction, and no hype that ain't worth it all the way, POS are going to knock in your door and steal your soul from your unsuspecting ass. We have the green light from the band to get interviews rolling, so don't be shy! Send us your requests and we'll do our thing.
[ www.placeofskulls.com | www.southernlord.com/press/placeofskulls/ ]

PROBOT
The time is finally approaching. Probot will be here in mere months now, and you'll finally be able to stop drooling in anticipation. Please note that the Probot track w/ Wino is titled: "EMERALD LAW" and not "Emerald Lie" or "Emerald Lies" as may have been previously reported.

Check out the shit up on Billboard.com!!!:

For now hit up the Southern Lord site and check out the few sections of songs in the 'Probot Player'.

PSYCHOTOGEN
"Interesting to see folks raised on the tech-thrash of Atheist and Sadus, then steeped in the self-aware death/grind of literate bands like Dying Fetus and Dillinger Escape Plan, going back to the future a bit and eschewing the faster-and-deeper school of gore-metal oblivion and bringing a little technicality and musicality back to the table. ... Unafraid to show off some chops (especially the flashy bassist), or show off their Schuldiner influences ... What I dig about Psychotogen's brand of technicality is, the tripped-out musicianship is never done at the expense of the son - the band are savvy enough players and writers that there's always a hook to hang the tune on, and things never descend into a self-parodying maelstrom of notes. Their restraint is as impressive as their ability. ... Once you soak up just how much is going on in these killer songs, though, it's hard not to be mightily impressed." Keith Bergman | Infernal Combustion

Maryland-bred and molten metal-fed, the meaning to Psychotogen's name (any agent that causes or induces psychosis) is amplified and explained through their diversity and undeniably crushing method of death metal. You read the review snippet above? Well that's exactly what's in store for you - a classic slab of tech-death metal driven with post-Jazz fallout and metallic breaks of pure insanity. Interviews are welcomed, desired, and encouraged, so please drop us a line.

CONCERT ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Ataris
w/Hopesfall & Planes Mistaken For Stars
$15
All Ages
Saturday, November 15th
(Tickets on sale Saturday, October 11th at 10am at all Ticketmaster
locations.)

The Ataris, one of the most successful independent rock bands of recent
years, have a brand new album, “so long, astoria”, the group's
eagerly-awaited major label debut on Columbia Records. “so long,
astoria” is the first full-length Ataris album in nearly two years.

"Musically," says Ataris frontman Kris Roe, "we took a back-to-basics
straight-forward rock approach. There's no novelty, no silly aspects to
this record at all. It's a serious story-telling record. Everything is
really personal, every song is about something different, each song is
like a page in the scrapbook of memories, but it's not a dark record at
all."

"In a lot of my lyrics," Kris reveals, "I like to encode a lot of
hidden messages and whatnot. I like our fans to read into things. I feel
that our fans are smart and I don't want to give them just a bunch of
surface lyrics that you can take at face value."

Conceptually, “so long, Astoria” takes its inspiration from a
concept expressed in punk pioneer Richard Hell's novel, "Go Now" (which also
exists as a spoken word album): that memory can transcend the
experience that generated the memory. "That really hit home with me," Kris
points out. "That's how I try and structure my life: to try to do what will
produce the best memories for later. When we're traveling on tour,
there are a lot of things that you let go of and leave behind, but, at the
end of the day, even if you didn't accomplish anything, you'll have
these great memories of all the people you've met and all the places
you've been and all these things that you've done and all this time that
you've shared with your friends."

The primacy of memory is a theme that runs through the songs on “so
long, astoria”. When writing for the new album, Kris Roe got in his
car and drove around to "places where I grew up, places where I used to
live, my old school, all these places. At two in the morning, I'd sit in
my car and I'd just write. I'd take all these Polaroids of where I grew
up. I went back and stole back these memories that were once mine by
taking all these Polaroids. At this point in my life and career, I can't
very well go back to the house where I used to live and say to the
people that live there now, 'Can I sit in my old bedroom?' But I could take
photographs in the f***ing window. I tried to do anything I could to
make this record more vivid and detailed, even going to stalker limits."

The album's title track encapsulates the idea of memory being a kind of
buried treasure: "Life is only as good as the memories we make/and I'm
taking back what belongs to me/Polaroids of classrooms unattended/These
relics of remembrance are just like shipwrecks/only they're gone faster
than the smell after it rains..../And when this hourglass has filtered
out its final grain of sand/I'll raise my glass to the memories we
had/This is my wish and I'm taking it back, I'm taking 'em all back."

"In This Diary," the album's first single, has been slated to be lensed
as a video by cutting edge director Steven Murashige, whose résumé
includes clips for Incubus and Rage Against The Machine. The song itself
finds Kris admitting that "Being grown up isn't half as fun as growing
up" before offering up the hope that "...eventually you'll finally get
it right."

For Kris, getting it right means connecting in a real way with the
band's audience and the Ataris are ferociously dedicated to their fans. "We
are a very personal band with our fans," Kris is eager to stress. "We
definitely go out of our way. We take it an extra mile. We write all our
fans back personally, we run our own website personally. We have a kid
from the audience get on stage and play guitar on a song with us every
night. We opened up a record store in Santa Barbara, where we live, so
that when we're off tour, people can come visit us. We even rehearse
and practice there so when kids come, we'll let them jam with us. We
listen to the demos kids give us and we've helped a few bands get signed to
indie labels. We want this to be known about our band: all we are is a
bunch of music fans who got lucky and happen to be living our dream. We
are a band that exists solely for the purpose of our fans."

But this kind of 24-7 attention to fans can create conflicts with other
real-world responsibilities. In "The Saddest Song," Kris writes a
heartfelt apologia to his daughter, hoping that she'll grow up to understand
why her father's work took him away from home so often. "I'm trying to
tell my daughter that I know what it's like to be without your father,"
he confesses, "because I was without my dad for about five years after
my parents got divorced." "I pray I get the chance to make it up to
you," he sings to her. "We've got a lot of catching up to do."

Kris extends both identification and empathy to the poet Emily
Dickinson in "Unopened Letter," tracing a spiritual kinship between the Belle
of Amherst and Kurt Cobain, two great poetic souls who live on in a
"posthumous life." "It's about how a lot of artists never get the credit
they deserve," Kris offers, "until they pass away." Visiting the
Dickinson Homestead while collecting the stories and images for “so long,
astoria”, Kris was inspired to ask "If I died tomorrow, would this song
live on forever?"

When the Ataris received a fan letter written to the band by a young
girl confined to a hospital bed with a life-threatening illness, Kris was
moved to write "My Reply," one of the most emotionally powerful songs
on “so long, astoria”. "I want to make sure that every thing I say
is something that is really from my heart, something really personal,
and something positive," Kris says about writing this song. "I want to
know that if I'm reaching kids, I'm reaching them in a way that's really
helping them. I know what it's like to be a kid that's totally down,
that grew up in a small town and doesn't have many friends, that doesn't
feel like he or she fits in or belongs. If I'm speaking to somebody in
that way, I want to make sure that I let them know that 'Hey, man,
there's hope out there. There's a lot more beyond this life and you need to
look for it."

When it came time to find a producer for “so long, astoria”, the
Ataris chose Lou Giordano (Goo Goo Dolls, Sunny Day Real Estate, Samiam,
Paul Westerberg, Hüsker Dü, Sugar). "I wanted this album to possess
this kind of straight-forward power-pop rock vibe," Kris admits, "kind
of what the Replacements always did. I wanted to make a record that
spoke to a wide audience. Lou had worked with a lot of bands outside of
just our scene."

The result is a dream come true for fans of this high-energy modern
rock combo, with the new original songs showcasing the emotionally-charged
Ataris sound while a revved-up rendition of Don Henley's "Boys Of
Summer" gives a full-on jolt of the band's spirited fun.

The Ataris are: Kris Roe (lead vocals/guitar), Johnny Collura
(guitar/vocals), Mike Davenport (bass/vocals), and Chris "Kid" Knapp (drums).
The group was first discovered in 1997 when songwriter Kris Roe passed
along his demo tape to Joe Escalante, bassist for the Vandals and owner
of Kung Fu Records. Moving from Anderson, Indiana, to Santa Barbara,
California, Roe assembled The Ataris' line-up and recorded the group's
first full-length offering, Anywhere But Here, for Kung Fu. The Ataris
subsequently recorded an EP, Look Forward To Failure (1998 - Fat Wreck
Chords), as well as the additional Kung Fu albums: Blue Skies, Broken
Hearts... Next 12 Exits (1999) and End Is Forever (2001), each of which has
sold more than 100,000 copies in the U.S. and has achieved similar
sales successes around the world.

A virtual touring machine since the band's inception, the Ataris have
shared bills with Jimmy Eat World, Social Distortion, Blink 182, the
Hives, 311, and others. The group has been a main stage attraction on the
Van's Warped Tour and has sold out tours in Japan, Australia, New
Zealand and Europe.

"After months of writing and recording our new album, we are very
excited to be getting back on the road to see all of our loyal fans again,"
said the Ataris' Kris Roe. Following the release of “so long,
astoria”, the band intends on touring for at least a year with shows
including performances on the main stage of the 2003 Warped Tour.

With the release of “so long, astoria”, the promise of the Ataris'
early indie roots is fulfilled with some of the most provocative and
emotionally powerful rock sounds this continually-evolving group has ever
made.

Fragile Porcelain Mice
w/Nil8 & Steve Ewing of The Urge
$10 Advance/$12 Day Of Show
All Ages
Thanksgiving - Thursday, November 27th
(Tickets on sale Wednesday, October 8th at 5pm at all Ticketmaster
locations.)

Formed in early 1992, FRAGILE PORCELAIN MICE has been defined by being
one of the most creative, innovative and explosive acts to come out of
the Midwest in years.

In late 1998, original guitarist, Tim O'Saben, took a hiatus from FPM.
In the summer of 2001, O’Saben returned to the fold and since
reforming, Scott Randall (vocals), Mark Heniz (drums), Dave Winkeler (bass)
and Tim O’Saben (guitar) have been at work on the follow-up to their
critically acclaimed albums All This Baggage, Frostbidding and Amigo de
Fuego.

Having toured North America extensively performing with acts ranging
from HUM to THE JESUS LIZARD to SYSTEM OF A DOWN, FPM continue to write
groundbreaking music and have limited their performances to only a
handful of shows a year, which continue to be a priority to their loyal and
somewhat rabid fan base. The band continues to push the musical
boundaries in the studio and in their live shows, which have become something
of a cult phenomenon.

FPM are currently recording their forthcoming album.

ALSO ANNOUNCED

Kevin Martin & The Hiwatts
$10
All Ages
Tuesday, November 11th
(Tickets on sale Saturday, October 11th at 10am at all Ticketmaster
locations.)

As front man of his first band Candlebox, Kevin Martin sold over 5
million records. The group catapulted him to the top of the modern-rock
ranks spawning the mega-hits "Far Behind" and "You". Headlining arena
tours and the critically acclaimed albums, 1995's Lucy and 1998's Happy
Pills followed. Now, Martin has stepped into a new realm by recording his
first solo album "The Possibility of Being."

“The Possibility Of Being” is a solo album...and it isn't. Martin
had several songwriting collaborators: Hole guitarist Eric Erlandson,
onetime Rob Rule guitarist/Candlebox touring guitarist Robbie Allen,
Colin Duchin, Bottlefly's Colin Lizzard, Mark Arnell and Danny Martin. The
album resonates with that distinct band-y feel. But the project is very
much Martin's: He co-wrote and arranged all 11 tracks. In fact, he
co-produced them, along with Candlebox producer Kelly Gray. Martin says, "I
told Kelly, "These are the songs I have. This is the direction I'm
going. These are the melodies I want. This is how big I want it to sound,
because this is how I feel right now, full of angst, aggression,
emotion, and compassion."

The “Possibility Of Being” is pure, uncut rock 'n' roll in the
truest sense of the term. But it's a textured collection, and Martin makes
clear that each song is attacked and caressed in a different way, so
the lyrics and the voice are what really cohere the album. "Lyrics and
melody have always been important to me," says Martin. "That's one of the
best ways I communicate."

Consider the lyric, "If I could decide on what I've decided/If I could
confide in whom I've confided/If I could believe in all I believe in/We
deny it all/There's no trust inside," from the album's first single,
"If We Could." "The song moves like a wave. It surges in, crashes, and
then pulls back," Martin says. "The song is about readjusted beliefs. It
deals with humanity, being humane to one another. Asking yourself,
"What am I doing here? What is life all about for me?"

Martin spent the better part of two years writing the songs that would
become “The Possibility of Being.” The album comes complete with
instant young lover's evergreens like "Walk Away" and "The Lovers" and
rock anthems such as "Telepathic Rock & Roll," which pays homage to many
of Martin's heroes; "Enemy," a cut that opens with Peter Fonda saying
"What we need is a real uprising" into a melee of judgmental ridicule;
and "Identify" which recalls Martin's punk-rock roots.

VANILLA FUDGE BIO

Vanilla Fudge was one of the few American links between psychedelia and
what soon became heavy metal. While the band did record original
material, they were best known for their loud, heavy, slowed-down
arrangements of contemporary pop songs, blowing them up to epic proportions and
bathing them in a trippy, distorted haze. Originally, Vanilla Fudge was a
blue-eyed soul cover band called the Electric Pigeons, who formed on
Long Island, NY, in 1965. Organist Mark Stein, bassist Tim Bogert, and
drummer Joey Brennan soon shortened their name to the Pigeons and added
guitarist Vince Martell. They built a following by gigging extensively
up and down the East Coast, and earned extra money by providing
freelance in-concert backing for girl groups. In early 1966, the group recorded
a set of eight demos that were released several years later as While
the Whole World Was Eating Vanilla Fudge, credited to Mark Stein & the
Pigeons.

Inspired by the Vagrants, another band on the club circuit led by
future Mountain guitarist Leslie West, the Pigeons began to put more effort
into re-imagining the arrangements of their cover songs. They got so
elaborate that by the end of the year, drummer Brennan was replaced by
the more technically skilled Carmine Appice. In early 1967, their manager
convinced producer George "Shadow" Morton (who'd handled the girl group
the Shangri-Las and had since moved into protest folk) to catch their
live act. Impressed by their heavy, hard rocking recasting of the
Supremes' "You Keep Me Hangin' On," Morton offered to record the song as a
single; the results landed the group a deal with the Atlantic subsidiary
Atco, which requested a name change. The band settled on Vanilla Fudge,
after a favorite ice cream flavor. "You Keep Me Hangin' On" didn't
perform as well as hoped, but the band toured extensively behind its
covers-heavy, jam-oriented debut album Vanilla Fudge, which gradually
expanded their fan base. Things started to pick up for the band in 1968: early
in the year, they headlined the Fillmore West with the Steve Miller
Band, performed "You Keep Me Hangin' On" on The Ed Sullivan Show, and
released their second album, The Beat Goes On. Despite its somewhat arty,
indulgent qualities, the LP was a hit, climbing into the Top 20. That
summer, Atco reissued "You Keep Me Hangin' On," and the second time
around it climbed into the Top Ten. It was followed by Renaissance, one of
Vanilla Fudge's best albums, which also hit the Top 20. The band
supported it by touring with Jimi Hendrix, opening several dates on Cream's
farewell tour, and late in the year touring again with the fledgling Led
Zeppelin as their opening act.

In 1969, the band kept touring and released their first album without
Morton, the expansive, symphonic-tinged Near the Beginning. After part
of the band recorded a radio commercial with guitarist Jeff Beck, the
idea was hatched to form a Cream-styled power trio with plenty of
individual solo spotlights. Exhausted by the constant touring, the band
decided that their late-1969 European tour would be their last. Following the
release of their final album, Rock & Roll, Vanilla Fudge played a few
U.S. farewell dates and disbanded in early 1970. Bogert and Appice first
formed the hard rock group Cactus, and then later joined up with Jeff
Beck in the aptly named Beck, Bogert & Appice. Appice went on to become
an active session and touring musician, working with a variety of rock
and hard rock artists. Vanilla Fudge reunited in 1984 for the poorly
received Mystery album, and have since reunited several more times,
though only for tours. Their most recent incarnation features keyboardist
Bill Pascali in place of Mark Stein and guitarist Teddy Rondinelli in
place of Vince Martell.

GYPSY BIO

Even though progressive rock may have been born in Europe, several
American groups rose to carry the torch of this musical style in the early
1970's. One of the most popular of these bands was Gypsy, which
originally hailed from Minneapolis, but relocated to Los Angeles to realize
their creative potential. Core members James Walsh (keyboards), Jim
Johnson (guitar) and Enrico Rosenbaum (guitar) wrote and performed some of
the most original prog rock ever recorded. The complex musical
arrangements, the beautifully executed vocals and the spritual lyrics made them
overwhelming favorites for live concerts. They landed such exceptional
gigs as house band at The Whiskey-A- Go-Go; tours with The Guess Who,
Black Sabbath, Spirit, The Kinks, King Crimson, Steppenwolf and more;
appearances at major concert venues such as The Atlanta Pop Festival
(with Mountain, Jimi Hendrix, and the Allman Brothers) and as headliners at
The Fillmore East and West and Winterland.

Along the way they recorded two albums for the independent label,
Metromedia, the first of which was an unheard-of-for-the-time double album,
which sported the art deco cover by Alfons Mucha that became their
symbol. In spite of very limited funds from the label to support these
releases, both somehow charted on Billboard.

When the financially strapped Metromedia folded, the albums became cult
classics and collector's items, selling in some parts of the country
for more than $100 each!

Due to continued FM airplay of such songs as "Gypsy Queen", "Dead and
and Gone", "Tomorrow Is The Last To Be Heard", and "As Far As You Can
See (As Much As You Can Feel)", Gypsy's music has remained in demand and
the group has become no less than legendary. Now you can experience the
music of Gypsy, digitally remastered, containing the original
psychedelic artwork plus never before released bonus tracks, as Bedrock Records
presents "Gypsy" and "In The Garden".

  Year of the PROBOT
It was 2001 when rumors begin clogging the internet and magazines alike that former Nirvana drummer and Foo Fighters main-man Dave Grohl had some new-fangled metal band coming out. The name Probot became an instant point of interest for thousands. For over two years, the rumors spread, morphed and magnified, and as of 2003/now (!!), the secret sleeps no longer.

ALL RISE!!! . Probot is upon us and its far more than anyone could have ever expected; an all-star performance record of monumental proportions. The songs on the Probot album were written entirely by Grohl. He then sent out these recordings to all of his favorite metal vocalists from a specific period of time in underground metal (83 to '90,) Each song features its own throat and Grohl also had help from a few other dudes (Kim Thayill of Soundgarden lays a blistering solo down on the King Diamond track, Bubba Dupree from Void is on the Mike Dean track. etc...) Grohl enthustiacally explains:There are some fast tracks, the Cronos track (Centuries of Sin) is old school fast thrash metal. The Lee Dorrian track (Ice Cold Man) is slow and has a dirge to it. The Snake track (Dictatorsaurus) is kind of reminiscent of a old Voivod track. The King Diamond track (Sweet Dreams) is slow. The Mike Dean track (Access Babylon) is sort of like an old school metal hardcore-crossover song. It moves in a lot of different ways. It isnt about me; Im just having the time of my life in fantasy camp being able to create something with these people I listened to for years when I was young. Probot is a eclectic metal compilation. Each track is its own unique entity, always potent, always compelling. and completely metal!

The first grimm taste of Probot will be a two-track 7 , limited to 6,666 copies, unleashed this November on Southern Lord recordings. This cult item will feature two Probot songs:
"Centuries Of Sin with Cronos of Venom, and Emerald Lies featuring Wino of The Obsessed, Spirit Caravan, Place of Skulls, etc.

The full album, totaling eleven hard-hitting tracks (plus a secret bonus track yet to be revealed), is to be released on February 10th, 2004 on Southern Lord Recordings and will be available on both CD and 2xLP format. A video for the track Shake Your Blood will be filmed in November.

  From Pete Altieri of Heavycore.org

Heavycore Brothers:

We need your help! We got over 50 emails from bands who wanted to be on the DVD and only got 13 confirmed as of right now. That's fucking pathetic!

We're still going forward with things, as the filler stuff between the songs is being scripted and set up for shooting. The artwork will begin shortly, but we NEED MORE BANDS!

I can't believe out of 909 bands in Heavycore that so few are passing up the opportunity to be on a DVD exclusive with Pro-Pain, Lividity and several other wicked bands! We're talking with Morbid Records from Germany about having them distribute it over in Europe. We will be selling them very cheap on the site to really stir things up and move them.

We are going to be packing a room full of metal heads to comment on each video on the DVD. So any bands who want to mail in t-shirts, posters, flyers, or whatever - we'll be glad to wear your stuff and hang shit on the walls to give you some promo. T-shirts should be at least 2x or XL. This is for any Heavycore band - whether you're on the DVD or not.

Send stuff to: Heavycore, PO Box 4324, Bloomington IL 61704

For only $195 you can put a video on there - and you get 10 copies to sell so you can easily make your money back and be on the compilation with the rest of us.

I'm extending the submission deadline to October 10th - which will not delay things much at all as we get the rest of the DVD work done. So get off your ass and participate!

Click here for more information: www.lowtwelve.com/roastingposers.html

Your material can be live stuff, raw and wicked. Don't worry about sending in the most professional video - we want them to sound good, but we won't be picky if the track slams. Send it in!

Supporters you too! I lowered the ad rate to only $25! God damn - support the cause!

I hope to see some of you rise to the call and submit your stuff - we need your help to make this happen!

Confirmed bands (in no order):

1. Low Twelve- Lines Drawn
2. PCP - Altered (live)

3. Pro-Pain - track not decided, either live or new studio video

4. Blessed with Pain - Shackled Soul

5. Alchymist - Who Rapes You

6. Lividity - The Urge to Splurge - live in Czech Republic

7. Skeptik - Tired Of . . . Wyred Out!

8. Soultorn - Away

9. Systemic - Surgical Solution

10. Skitzo - Angel's Blood (live)

11. Osmium - World of Anguish

12. Condemned - The Birth of Maggots

13. Slugtrail - Lick
